Students and alumni from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School will stop in Punta Gorda on Tuesday on their “Road to Change” bus tour.

The nationwide tour will take the group across the country and to each of Florida’s congressional districts. Charlotte County will be its fifth stop in the state.

According to a press release, the goal is “to register people to vote, to educate citizens on gun violence and youth activism, and to encourage citizens to vote on election day.”

To do so, the Parkland survivors-turned-advocates will be joining forces with local students, educators, law enforcement and leaders during a town hall event. The public is welcome to address the panel with any questions they might have.

The town hall meeting will be held at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Congregational United Church of Christ in Punta Gorda.

Students from MSD and Charlotte County will also have a voter registration booth set up in Laishley Park earlier in the day. Free water and entertainment will also be provided at the event from noon to 2 p.m.

“(Road to Change is) a chance to connect with people, young people, in so many different communities,” said student organizer Delaney Tarr in the press release.

Many students involved also played a large role in the March for Our Lives event and subsequent protests earlier this year.
